One of my old pen-pals posted this scan in my LJ a couple of years ago:

I found it again while cleaning out my entries this morning.  It's of the mousepad I airbrushed for her way back in 1999 (I did some color-correction and editing on it for this post).  As you can see, Amethyst still had a bodysuit instead of the skirt and I wasn't drawing the outer corners of the eyes just yet.

As far as I know, it's still being used.  :D

The shape makes me think of the classic style metal lunchboxes from the 60s.
