Down with establishment (that's DA) E! (That's you) Revolution NOW! ;D

I'm with the Duckster on this one... (and believe me E, I've fought the Establishment once before (Heck you wonder why KP Is getting that 4th Season? Cause I fought for it (Along with about 800 others  over at Mission_Kim_Possible. (and in fact it seems the Success over there has spawned about a dozen types of groups like that to keep Disney Shows online..

Now as for DA? I say that they need to lighten up a little else they're gonna not only have to pull your stuff but stuff from other folks as well (Everyone who is an artist is really at risk there..

(Why they picked on just you,I really have no freakin clue, but I would take some of the advice of the friends above and tell DA where to stick their nice little Censorship mind at! (Frankly I hate it when certain groups don't let fans express their emotions or even their expressionistic talent!)

but hey Then I have to also play Devil's advocate here as well. and frankly sure DA has the right to pull the stuff (but heck why just you, and not you and others..(I could see this happening if it were you and about 30 or 40 or 100 others, but just you? To quote Baby Herman from Who Framed Roger Rabbit "Something stinks here like yesterday's diapers....

But my gut instinct is much like Duck's and perhaps the rest of the groups.. and well if they don't want stuff? It's their loss not yours.. at least you have the art so you can always practice and improve on it..(And besides I think the folks here are more then welcome to see your art.. (Myself included)

so as for DA? Pheh.. who needs em? they need to get a life and read more Playboy  or maybe Maxim.

That really bites, E. I can understand you not wanting to leave because you get so many hits, but you shouldn't have to put up with this kind of crap either. :P If you want to start a petition or something let us know. We got your back! ;) :-*

DA's retarded!

I'll bet their problem was with the apparent age of the characters.
I'm going to start submitting pictures of young girls, and claim they're
hobbits. Let's see what they do...  ;D

As unfair as it is, it's their website. They pay for it. They can do what they want with it and it's users. It's your choice to be there. You don't have to be there. But they have created this community and have paid for it so you can have that choice.

If they do not feel that a piece is complying by their rules, they will pull it. And that's the end of it. I have seen this happen to dozens of my friends on there. There's no way to fight the system, so many before you have tried, and they are very strict about their policies.

So don't think they are singling you out, because they're not. There are people everyday who get rather mildly explicit pieces pulled, that seem to be complying with the rules, but just don't make the cut.

Is it unfair? Yes. Is it unfair that these pieces are pulled when nude deviations of suggestive nature make the Daily Deviation every day, sometimes twice a day? Yes, it's very unfair.

But you don't have to be there. They're not going to adjust their rules so you have a more pleasent stay.

Their main issue with the pieces they pulled is that most of those characters are portrayed as underaged on the SHOWS. And you have basically drawn them as they are presented on such shows. (Your Kim Possibles are perfectly on model.) Especially in that Kim and Ron piece. Ron doesn't look aged at all. That's their problem. With the pieces that they left, from what I can tell most of those characters are of age or are presented as such.

If you want to beat the system, as someone already suggested on dA, denote that this is the character "all grown up". Make sure in your descriptions you specify, "KIM POSSIBLE IS PORTRAYED AS AGE 18 HERE". Then you should have NO problems. If you have problems after signifying this, though, then they have gone too far.

I wish you the best of luck, E! :)

Thanks eveyone!!!   :-*  Love you guys!

Shot- You make many valid points. . . I totally understand that yeah, it's their website, and yeah, they make the rules. . . what I find unfortunate is their way of handling it.  I'm not feeling singled out but I do feel like I'm being treated like a number.  And with the number of members on there maybe expecting a more personalized explanation is asking too much, but if they take the time to review my gallery for the purpose of deleting images when I *pay* to be there, then I think that yeah, they can sure as hell take the time to tell me why as well.

See, I've never planned on pushing or challenging their guidelines, I just got pissed because I followed them to the best of my abilites and still got bit in the ass.

The underage thing had remotely crossed my mind before. . . guess I didn't give it enough thought cuz I already saw many of the same characters in the same situations there. . . and of course there's the whole thing about how do you prove the age of a cartoon character. . . of course in my mind they were all at least eighteen but I guess I should have clearly stated that in the descriptions like you and many others now have suggested.   ;)

I know whatever I say to them is not gonna change their policies, as I'm not surprised that these things happen there every day.  But I feel I at least deserve clearer commincation with them so I'm not in any danger of violating policies any further, but we'll see what they have to say if they bother to reply.

Oh, and thanks for the reply, Shot!  I still love your drawing style.  Do you have an account there too?  :)

Enigma I think your work is fantastic and am in ah on how fast you can get your work coloured on the computer.  Has for your complaint about DA, I don't know how they make up their minds on what is determined to be of poor taste but my only though is that someone must of complained to managment and then the pictures were pulled.  Other pics I have seen have been up for some months before being removed.
I know that I have had a least one pulled, didn't know about it until I read your complaint here.  My only suggestion is to place a formal inquiry as to why they removed your pics and then if you wish to take it farther then proceed.  Ultimetly if you piss them off they will sent you the the computer equivelent of the corner and revoke your access for a month or so.
         Good luck with your action.

The pic I had removed, and I'm not really surprised its gone from DA although I am rather proud of the way it turned out.

I think that hosting pics at dA is yet another good way to get my art out there, um, sort of a way to advertize myself and become better known; I don't plan on it being the main place to post my work.  However, I've had over 25,000 pageviews and I've been added to people's fave lists over 1,300 times there, and I'm pretty proud of that.  Of course, I'll be even more proud once I have my own site up.

This is the root of the actual problem, it seems to me.  You are getting a lot of attention through dA's resources, and now it looks like a good thing for you is getting threatened.  But really it all boils down to a misinterpretation of rules on your part and horrid communication and wrong-headed enforcement on their part.  It's a fight you won't win, no matter how hard you try, unfortunately.  Surely you're aware of all the other artists who've gone through the same thing there -- a lot of them are at WWOEC and have discussed it often, from what I've seen.  PLEASE read the rest of my post, though, because I am in FULL SUPPORT of you!

As you also said, you will always have dA, WWOEC, and JAB as forums where you can post for free... as long as you follow their rules, of course, and that's their prerogative.  Remember that dA's still going to be available to you as long as you don't let your emotions run wild over being practical.  If you like all those page views and all that knowledge of your work getting out there, then I wouldn't go burning any bridges at dA, if I were you.

And I know I'm just nobody special.  I don't get into the chats here and I'm not a heavy poster on the board, so you don't have any reason to care about what I think... but I really do like and respect you, and I really do have a great solution to your problem that won't take nearly as much effort as you'd think.

Here's what I mean:  put that independent site up now.  Don't worry!  It will be easy to do, because what Sigma posted is true -- there are plenty of web hosts who will allow a domain with explicit art on their servers, and it will cost less than $10 to get that hosting with all the storage and bandwidth you'll need.  But here's the BEST THING -- other people will pay those costs for you!  Now, that's just my belief, but let's look at the facts:  your work is fantastic and is well-regarded by literally thousands of people; you are also a very nice and likable person.  Because of these facts, you should certainly be able to get others interested in helping pay for hosting that can display your more explicit images.

Then just link to your site from all the other forums where you post.  Make the link description say something about your independent web site that has more sexy images than what you can post there.  People will hit it like crazy, just like they already hit your pages on dA!

They really will.  I believe it 110%.  Just take donations.  Get the word out that you'll accept donations to help you set up that independent site, and the money will come in.  You can still have a site that's totally free for visitors to hit, of course, but it will be a site that goes by your own rules.  Once the hosting is paid for by donations, then your only hurdle left is to design your pages and upload the necessary files.  And, by the way, if you've never designed web pages before, you should know that it's plenty artistic and creative, not just technical and obstruse.  There's plenty of software out there that even lets you design pages without having to deal with the technicalities of html at all.  (It seems like you're plenty savvy enough to already be well-versed in html and what-not, though, am I right?)

Anyway, I know it's hard to ask for money, but in your case I think people will be more than happy to help you out.  If you do decide to set up a donations account somewhere, then I promise I will give at least $20 to help your cause.  Guaranteed.  Even though I'm nobody, I'm still a nobody who can donate to a great artist and person like you!

GO FOR IT!!!  (I definitely have more I can share about this from my personal experiences, but I've sucked up enough space in this thread as it is.  If you'd like more input from me about it all, then please PM me.)

EW,
If I'm repeating what others have already stated, I appologise...BUT, I too have been censored by DA. Every piece of mine that was deleted was acompanied by a rubber stamp expaination for the deletion that did not make any sense! All I can see when I look at the piece that were deleted as a whole is:They were copywritten characters and 2. Theydepeicted nudity or erotic themes.  I have OTHER copywritten character "Fan Art" on Da that was NOT removed. But these particular pieces were strictly "G" rated.  I also have erotic pieces that do not involve copywritten characters and THOSE are still available on my DA pages.  So it seesm to be a combination of copywritten characters and sex that is the kiss of death. If DA had simply come out, been honest and told me that THAT was the reason my pieces were removed, I would have felt much better about it. DA doesn't want to get in trouble or maybe even shut down by Warner Brothers, Disney or any other studio or copyright holder for hosting erotica of their characters, I understand that concern.  But to remove pieces for one reason and then, give some bogus reason for the removal, well that is just cowardly.

I say, keep using DA for your own personal pieces. Milk them for anything they are worth. If you finally get your own site, then you can bid them a fond farwell.

Thanks everyone!!!

I invite anyone interested to visit this deviation and make a comment on it: http://www.deviantar.../view/34969637/  I'm not sure if I'll bother editing any of the others at this point, but this piece is important to me for several different reasons and I wanted to hang on to it in at least some form over there.  Heh, but I feel like the music artist that has to decide whether or not to make an edited version of their album so it can be available at Wal-mart.

Yumibow- Nice pic!!!  Love your take on those gals.    :D

Paulbe- don't assume I wouldn't listen to you because you're "not important."  As long as you've been polite and insigthful with your posts it doesn't matter how many you've made or whether or not you visit the chat; everyone here has something to contribute, and I do appreciate what you had to say here.

My site is in the works as we speak, only held back from my own laziness.  Maybe the recent course of events will get the ball rolling again?   ;)

Biv- Yeah, that's what I really wanted more than anything else from them, an honest explanation.  It would be nice to know what the rules are so I won't be accidentally breaking them.   :P

Just do what you do, E.  Make art that makes you happy and that makes others happy.  DA is just a bunch of represive stiffs who have forgotten what the First Ammendment is all about.  I like your stuff,  everyone else likes your stuff, and if DA can't get behind you, then cut them loose.  :)

I left my input, E! ;) I'm so sorry that you've been forced to resort to this. No artist should ever have to censor or edit their work. :P
