Afterglow
The afternoon sun danced in lacy shadows of the curtains as a warm breeze wafted through the open window of the upstairs bedroom. Beyond, the clear, late summer sky shimmered over golden wheat fields, ready for harvest. In the room, a man gazed lovingly on the sleeping form of his wife as she lay with her head on his arm. She sighed and a smile crossed her lips in her sleep as his fingertips lightly brushed the velvety skin of her full breasts, still radiant from their recent lovemaking and highlighted by the glow of sunlight filling the room.
He had been in those fields earlier when he saw the thin wisps in the sky that told him of the tempest to come. He had glanced at the nearby silos and briefly worried about their safety. There was no telling when the storm would arrive, but all he could do was hope that it would pass them by and they would be spared. Suddenly, he was overcome by the desire to share what remained of this beautiful day with the one true love in his life.
Dashing from the fields, he quickly crossed the broad porch and passed into the house through the screen door. He found her in the solarium, potting plants. Sliding up silently behind her, he playfully untied the bows on her apron, letting it fall to the floor. Then he grasped her breasts and pulled her close to him, nuzzling the nape of her neck.
She quickly turned and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling his lips to hers in a passionate embrace. Even after fifteen years of marriage, he still had trouble keeping his hands off her, and she adored it.
Breaking the kiss, he scooped her into his strong arms as if she were a child and carried her up the back stairs to their bedroom, just as he had done on their wedding night. Quickly shedding their clothes, they fell together onto cool white sheets as their passions took hold. There was no foreplay this time, she was already wet with anticipation and the intensity of their desire brought an urgency they had often shared before.
She moaned deeply when he entered her, filling her completely, both physically and with a sense of overwhelming love for this man. She met him thrust for thrust as they thrashed about the bed, grunting and panting, overtaken by all consuming lust.
When it was over, she snuggled close to him, joyous in a feeling of blissful satisfaction as she drifted off to sleep.
Leaning over her, he brought his lips to hers for a tender kiss when the retaliatory ICBM detonated fifteen hundred feet over the reserve missile silo nearby, instantly incinerating everything within a five kilometer radius. There would be no second strike.
In a fraction of a microsecond, the couple’s ashes had become one before being vaporized and thrown before the blast of the growing mushroom cloud. They would be together, always.

Amazing, simply amazing. You have a wonderful way with words Dart. And the shockers are always my favorite type of stories. I hope more "just pop" into your head. Thank you so very much for sharing.

Thanks, Blue. It was inspired by your napkins. I hope you find time to dig out a few more of those. ;) :-* :-*
