Still working on the background, but here's page 18, where we are introduced to Tempora for the first time...

Amazing work on all these wonderful characters and stories, Harlander. I really love seeing the progress you keep making with your masterpiece. And I REALLY love that splash page introducing us to Tempora. Hot woman in business attire equals SMEXY!

She'll play a much bigger role in issue 2... in this scene, we discover that she's been feeding info to Pyre's father for years, which led to his becoming a multibillionaire, and it was at her insistence that the Union of Heroes was created... in issue 2, we find out that she's actually a time-traveler from the future!

Excellent work on Page 3! I love the X-ray effect! Tempora looks like someone you don't wanna mess with, in the boardroom or the bedr... well, the boardroom
anyway!

Secretary: "Mr. Chambers, Ms. Aeon is here to see you."

Max: "Sorry, John, I've got an appointment. We'll talk later, OK?"

John: "Sure, dad."

Max: "Send her in, Marcia."

(John leaves)

Max: "Now that we're alone, 'Ms. Aeon'--"

Tempora: "Now that we're alone, we can dispense with the pseudonym."

Max: "In exchange for yet another. Tell me, will I ever discover who you truly are, Tempora?"

Tempora: "In time. But not just yet."

Max: "You could have warned me, you know. We could have had extra security in place."

Tempora: "No, that would have only made things worse."

Max: "You've given me plenty of good advice over the years, but I still need you to ease my conscience here. This is my son we're talking about..."

Tempora: "I haven't lied to you. Ever."

Max: "I know. That's the only reason I founded this team like you asked."

Tempora: "Then what's the problem?"

Max: "You've never steered me wrong, but I'm still hesitant about putting my son in harm's way like this. And my ex-wife went through the roof when she found out about the team."

Tempora: "Your son will be fine. And the team? They're going to save the world."

Yeah, I figured if you're generating that much energy in your hands, then it's probably going to make your fists glow... and maybe even translucent. Besides, it looks cool.

Yeah. Before John/Pyre leaves the room on page 19, his dad, Max, has to snap him out of a hormone-induced stare. She makes an impression, though, because he definitely remembers her when she shows up again in issue 2...

Well, shit. Somebody just started following me on Twitter. Guess what... they've got a web comic called... wait for it... Union of Heroes.

Do I have to come up with a new name for my shit AGAIN?

OK, it's been a while since I posted anything on the site, but here's a massive freakin' update for all my fans:

Firstly, I renamed the comic. It's no longer Union of Heroes (as, like I mentioned in a previous post, that's been taken) - it's now The Protectorate.

So... here's some (very) rough mockups of the cover and first four pages:






Also, I found a print-on-demand company that specializes in comics. Their rates are far better than I'd expected, which means I can keep cover prices on par with the big boys and still make a decent profit to pay myself and those working with me on this project. Which brings me to my next point: Siggy has agreed to ink the comic for me (which I'll be writing and drawing), but I need someone who's a better colorist than me. Anyone interested?

No porn comics. Their limit is pretty much R-rated stuff. But since I'm going for more of a PG-13 audience with mine, I'll be fine.

Finished off the pencils for page 5; I'm about 1/4 of the way finished with page 6 now. I also made some changes to the dialogue on page 4, which are reflected on the updated file (above).

The characters I'm introducing in issue 1 pretty much all play a major role for the entire five-issue arc (with a couple minor exceptions), and all but two have been introduced on the first page. Though I didn't plan it at the time, Plasmid has a character arc that runs the entire five issues that changed him from a one-off idea for a villain when I first created him in middle school into one of my more compelling and nuanced characters that I want to keep around for a while now. Go figure, huh?
