My dear Jabbers,

I admit I'm not a mod, nor a five years veteran, nor a Transcendent, nor a Jabbelicious, nor a five stars user but why the hell thousands of lurker are stored in the forum member list? Couldn't they be erased?

In my opinion, they are superfluous and pollutant. They don't introduce themselves, they don't comment anything, they don't post anything, they don't vote and they are the 99%.

In my opinion, they can not be forum members.

I don't need parasite at Jabcomix forum.

Well lets see here. I used to be a member of the wwoec forums a couple years ago. They had a habit of clearing out their forums of defunct members occasionally. The main problem with that was that all of their content is hidden to forum members only and lurkers had to sign up to see everything. And while that was their choice it was bothersome to re-register after being deleted. They even restricted new members after clearing out all the inactive users which was quite annoying. That's not really the case here though so I don't know. It's really up to Webmaster and JAB as to what to do.

If you're talking about the recent boom in birthdays... You only have to look at their profile (almost all of them consist of a number 134040) to know it's a spambot.

We're dealing with this the best we can at the moment. Report any spam. That does help a lot. Thanks.

While I agree the robots need to go, and the ones who contribute nothing at all need to go, a time period should be established. If after (shrugs) 12 months you haven't been any kind of contributor, a lurker account should be deleated. Mainly if you don't even establish a profile, then you are probably a spambot, or a lurker.

Believe me i have no love for lurkers, even those that come in as anomyous. But some lurkers are potential or current members of JAB's paysite and uses this forum to stay updated ( or whatever they use it for). We don't wish to lose such members for being peepers here.

And hey, at least they don't complain about the speed of updates.

Don't worry man. Like JKR said, I'm mainly talking about the recent spambot attack. I agree with the idea of Fester but if lurkers could be a potential paysite members, as JKR said, we can leave them alone.

Well I was refering to people who do nothing at all for the forum or website in general.I was originally a lurker 6 years ago because I wanted to know what kind of people hung on the forum...so I understand that aspect completely.

I know that there are many more people than we realize that don't really want to have anything to do with the forums and they're here just for the pay area content, which is just fine. If they get curious and peek in once or twice and don't care to be regular posters that's fine too.

I know every once in a while they purge the forums of very old threads, so perhaps as Fester says they could do the same with the forum membership. However, I think the purges should be many years in between, and any member in danger of having their account deleted should be notified first and given the opportunity to protect their membership status.
