So... Yup, the first round of DC's new 52 is out and I'm following 5 of the titles which is waaaaaaaay more than I usually do.

I don't know if anyone else wants to talk about them but so far I'm following:

Batman,
Catwoman,
Detective Comics,
Batgirl,
and Justice League.

The artists they've got on each series are amazing! I've always been a fan of Tony Daniel and Jim Lee, and it's awesome seeing their work, Justice League especially is off to an awesome start! Detective Comics and Batman are especially dark in tone, and Catwoman is sexy as hell, even if it's upsetting a lot of people with the emphasis on sexuality.

Anyone else following the new 52? :)

I am as well.

Catwoman
Batgirl
Supergirl
Action Comics
Superman
Green Lantern
Green Lantern Corps
JLA
Wonder Woman
The Flash

I must say I am not hating it as much I thought. Some things deserve major tweaks such as Superman having to wear armor while Supergirl is basically wearing her Graduation Uniform. What's with all the armor? Even Flash is wearing a type of armor. Superman's attitude is a bit more gung ho and take action like he'd totally kick criminal ass whereas before he'd be a bit more of a defensive player.
Catwoman is very sexy and at first I was thinking it was just going to be another Cheesecake festival but then it really does seem to fit the character. She is after all surrounded by criminals and she has always been sexy, and seeing her and Batman get it on was kinda hot!
Wonder Woman is really too early to tell, Green Lantern and the Corps don't seem to be affected by the changes, it's exactly what it was before the new 52. Flash seems like the same with an updated armor uniform and Batgirl, while I hated that they took away such a strong character as Oracle, is actually very entertaining and has potential giving Barbara's traumatic experience and how it will affect her superheroing!!!
All in all I definitely would change a lot but with these being first issues am am enjoying and plan to give the titles a chane to grow and develop before I would make a final judgement.

Well, I definitely gotta increase the number of titles I'm following now!! :) I'm hoping that Wonder Woman will be good, and my friend, well she's following Green Lantern and I read the issue with Sinestro as a lantern but I haven't read corps yet. or the red lanterns either. I really really liked Catwoman, maybe it was the way she described his lips tasting like metal, or maybe it was the passionate confusion, but for some reason I really liked this version of the character. I know there are a lot of other women out there that disagree with me, they don't like how DC is sexing up the women after they said the new 52 would be less about how much leg skin a girl is showing and more about who they are as characters. I don't know, maybe I don't read comics to be empowered, maybe I read them for sex and fantasy and shock and excitement.

Catwoman issue #2 comes out soon, I definitely hope the whole controversy over her having sex with Batman isn't changing the direction they're going with for the rest of the story, because I'm liking this Selina Kyle, and I'm pretty interested to see how this physically recovered but not psychologically recovered Batgirl is going to hold up. :)

Wonder Woman is a disappointment. I just can't bring myself to pick it up with that art and story.

Most of the 52s started strong, but the writing is getting weaker and weaker ( as of issue 3). A great example is justice league, which is horrible as far as story telling is concern. Art is also slightly declining with the minion having beautifully detailed wings in the first issue and now they just look... Less detailed. I'm not a fan of seeing Wonder Woman just popping up in metropolis and going " hey i see you guys beating up these ugly things. Let me join in the fun." or Aquaman going, " hey are you guys a team? If so then i call dibs as leader." ( not a real quote)Fine for a porno.. not so cool for mainstream.

What this all really feels is DC attempting to change the comics to fit their movie counterpart (because DC makes more on the movies and it's easier to change things in the comics to fit the changes in the movies). It is interesting to note that after the WW tv series was cancelled, Wonder Woman isn't wearing pants now.

I'm not impressed with Wonder Woman's artwork. I think I should draw it!!! The story is alright but nothing that immediately grabs at me and I LOVE Wonder Woman so it pains me to say it.

I dropped my comic subscriptions last year and have instead been getting trade collections, but I'm really curious to see how DC is handling these reboots.

Hmmm... I still didn't get into Wonder Woman, the artwork in issue 1 didn't grab me.

Right now, I just read Batman #3, Detective Comics #3, Catwoman #3, and Justice League #3.

and I really really love the new DC line-up based on these 4 comics. With Justice League, I completely get what you're saying, it does feel like it takes its inspiration from the films rather than the character mythos of each hero and really rushing into things with 'one-liners' and such, but I think of it more as a quick way to get new readers a fresh introduction to the justice league and with Geoff John's writing it and the lovably detailed art of Jim Lee, it's hard not to like the title.

Batman is simply amazing, both in Batman and Detective Comics. The introduction of two completely new villains with so much mystery is just great! and I'm much more excited about this interpretation than I was the Grant Morrison storylines in Batman RIP and such.

Catwoman has definitely got better with every issue, they're actually establishing an emotional connection with the character and that makes it one of my personal favorites!!! :)

Definitely the new 52 is inspiring me to get some more drawing done. :D

Sorry but that's a horrible way to bring the Justice League together (I hope the movie version isn't like this). I don't really know Cyborg's original origin but this new one sucks. "Oh I'm a football player that's going somewhere in life. I'm gonna make millions and fuck more girls than my entire generation before me. And I'm sad because my dad doesn't love me. So I'm gonna whine and cry for several pages until I get to my dad's lab... where I'll whine and cry some more." So he goes to his laboratory, gets caught in an explosion (who the fuck lets a kid into a lab like that?), and Dad just happens to have all the tools to save him on hand. Yeah so that's how Cyborg is born. Making no money fighting crime, Might get one or two superfreak girls to fuck him, but at least now his dad might care what he does.

Seriously I think they fucked up the Justice League except... Jim Lee's art is really good and you're going to buy it regardless.

I recently stopped buying Batgirl. I'm not that big an Oracle fan (I mean if they can fix Batman's back, why can't they do the same for Barb?) but at least she had character as Oracle. The thing I have against all these female vigilantes is that... they're all the fuckin' same. You know why the female villains are so cool? They're not cookie cutter characters! Seriously, you won't find another Harley Quinn anywhere.

maybe I'm bitter because they can't make a decent Gen 13 comic, but that's how I feel.

I don't know why they felt it necessary to include this cyborg origin so early on...

It's really jarring with the rest of the story, I like how it seems Darkseid will be the first villain and in a lot of ways, I think he'll work, but the inclusion of Cyborg seems rushed when they're already rushing to assemble the team within three issues. I get what they're doing. They don't want to lose people who just started buying the comic. I only bought Batgirl issue 1, but this Barbara Gordon, while I like that she's afraid of being paralyzed again, she just doesn't seem like she's using the skill set she learned as Oracle at all. I don't know, maybe it's changed, but it didn't grab me.

I am a sucker for Jim Lee's art.. like in Hush, it's almost the star of whatever comic it's in. I never picked up the Superman book he pencilled, though I am seduced by the artbook he has out and I'm probably gonna fork over the $40 for it if only to hopefully improve my own art.

I would still say the verdict on Justice League for me personally, is still undecided. The art has me sold, and as for the story, well, I'm gonna wait a few more issues and see what happens.

I did not like the interpretation of Wonder Woman in Justice League at all.

Superman: You're strong.
Wonder Woman: I know.

REALLY!? What are we in third grade? She seems so childish and lacks the character to be a leader like she was pre52. Almost like a bloodthirsty Xena light. She has always been a warrior but never so single-minded and stereotype meathead basically. At least in her own title she has personality, however Chang's art is such a turnoff for me.
I agree that Batgirl should showcase not only her courage and fortitude but her intelligence as well. She has the potential to be a real presence but they've seemed to narrow-mindedly ignore her brainpower.
I have to say that JKR is right about the female villains being more interesting at this point. They seem to have more layers, more passion, and do things for unique and interesting reasons whereas the good girls seem flat and dull. Almost as if they were mass produced with the same compulsions to fight evil with no real personal investments or reasoning. Case in point... Catwoman. One of my favorite titles of the new 52. Her choices have ramifications which we've seen in issue three, and what she does due to such ramifications is something we'd all probably relate to if put in the same situation. She isn't always right and she doesn't always make the best choices but that is what a great character should be about. Definitely more interesting in my opinion.

"They're not cookie cutter characters! Seriously, you won't find another Harley Quinn anywhere."

Why thank you J!

Honestly? I'm not sure how they're handling it. The reboot means these people are now meeting or being introduced for the first time, but at the same time all the things that happen before still happened. Some baddies are now good guys and good guys are... Er.. still good guys. They all appear to get their costumes from the same tailor.

They also went the civil war/ x-men route where the world hates them and blames them for everything.

I have to admit, I've been rather impressed with the New 52! I still can't get into Green Lantern. However, I already have a couple of favorites. Batman, The Justice Legue, Action Comics, Superman, and Supergirl. I like The Dark Knight, and Men of War, but they are not in my favorites catagory and I might drop them eventually.

The ones I didn't really care for or just couldn't get into were; Batgirl, Catwoman and The Green Lantern. Both Catwoman and Green Lantern had me in for secound issues, but lost me at two.

I'm not crazy about the new designs for the justice league characters. Although I worship Jim Lee's artwork like everyone else on the planet, I don't like how his renditions of the costumes makes all of them look like they're wearing shiny metallic robot suits.

Even though it's the same design, Jim Lee's costume batman looks like he's wearing shiny metallic plates whereas Capullo's version looks like it has some texture and toughness to it. Much more appropriate and realistic, in my opinion.

Lee's

vs.

Capullo's

--------

Batman is the only comic I'm following. Greg Capullo has been one of my biggest influences growing up (although I guess it doesn't really show in my adult stuff) and I used to idolize his artwork for Spawn back in the day. It's been a dream of mine to see his take on Batman, and when it was announced that he'd be the artist on it I shat myself.

I think he's doing a great job, but the guy they have inking his pencils is leaving out a substantial amount of Greg's signature detail and I think it's really detracting from the whole work. Greg's pencils vs the finished pages are upsetting me a bit. I hope it's something they can work on and rectify throughout the course of the comic.

I agree about the suits. I think they work of Superman and Supergirl, but I don't think they work for Lantern or Batman. I think they're trying to make them look more uniform, but it just... I don't know, doesn't work for me. I think it's the art and the story that have me really involved.
