Sorry but that's a horrible way to bring the Justice League together (I hope the movie version isn't like this). I don't really know Cyborg's original origin but this new one sucks. "Oh I'm a football player that's going somewhere in life. I'm gonna make millions and fuck more girls than my entire generation before me. And I'm sad because my dad doesn't love me. So I'm gonna whine and cry for several pages until I get to my dad's lab... where I'll whine and cry some more." So he goes to his laboratory, gets caught in an explosion (who the fuck lets a kid into a lab like that?), and Dad just happens to have all the tools to save him on hand. Yeah so that's how Cyborg is born. Making no money fighting crime, Might get one or two superfreak girls to fuck him, but at least now his dad might care what he does.
Seriously I think they fucked up the Justice League except... Jim Lee's art is really good and you're going to buy it regardless.
I recently stopped buying Batgirl. I'm not that big an Oracle fan (I mean if they can fix Batman's back, why can't they do the same for Barb?) but at least she had character as Oracle. The thing I have against all these female vigilantes is that... they're all the fuckin' same. You know why the female villains are so cool? They're not cookie cutter characters! Seriously, you won't find another Harley Quinn anywhere.
maybe I'm bitter because they can't make a decent Gen 13 comic, but that's how I feel.
I don't know why they felt it necessary to include this cyborg origin so early on...
It's really jarring with the rest of the story, I like how it seems Darkseid will be the first villain and in a lot of ways, I think he'll work, but the inclusion of Cyborg seems rushed when they're already rushing to assemble the team within three issues. I get what they're doing. They don't want to lose people who just started buying the comic. I only bought Batgirl issue 1, but this Barbara Gordon, while I like that she's afraid of being paralyzed again, she just doesn't seem like she's using the skill set she learned as Oracle at all. I don't know, maybe it's changed, but it didn't grab me.
I am a sucker for Jim Lee's art.. like in Hush, it's almost the star of whatever comic it's in. I never picked up the Superman book he pencilled, though I am seduced by the artbook he has out and I'm probably gonna fork over the $40 for it if only to hopefully improve my own art.
I would still say the verdict on Justice League for me personally, is still undecided. The art has me sold, and as for the story, well, I'm gonna wait a few more issues and see what happens.
