Like your work. (looking down) At 68 and still not sagging that much. Can't wait to see what you do with your characters.

The first page looks really nice, pumpkin. Its really funny too. That is the perfect old man reaction.

I have one small issue though, and its with the lettering. Some of the word balloon placements make it read oddly. In the second panel the kid's balloon hangs down into the lower panels and the old man yelling balloon even touches it, leading me to think that it flows from panel 2 to panel 5 and bypasses 3 and 4. I don't know if that makes any sense... Word balloons are a tricky thing and where you place them really changes how the pages read.

Anyway, don't be mad at me or anything just trying to help out a little. The comic looks like its off to a great start.

please do criticise. I'm happy to hear it, but if you dare criticise the next page, i'll hunt you down and gut you.

seriously, i welcome it. this is my first comic . so writing and panelling is new to me. Don't expect this to be perfect, but i will try to improve.

I agree with Karmagik, the bubbles make it hard to follow the text

An comon, have some respect for the dudes Magnolias, now I am really going to geek out on you, magnolias normally grow in trees off the ground, try tulips, they should be easier to draw too

Hey snipope. Thanks alot for that, very interesting. I'm still finding my footing in terms of how to make a comic. but it was a really helpful read, and I'll defiantly do that. One question i have, how do you draw smooth lines. Because everything i have drawn is inconsistent and rough. how do you draw with such smooth lines?

There are drawing tools that help with the lines. Compasses, Rulers, Protractors etc.

Hey Pumpkin. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with your raw looking style. There's no "right" way things are supposed to look. It is, like you said, the starting out of your unique style! I found as you gain more confidence, you start naturally drawing darker!

My lines are not as smooth as you think. I draw in HUGE files and then when scaled down to something digestable, the lower resolution hides all the minor errors. Each panel in the page I sent you is about 2400px X 2400px. If you look at the blow ups I sent you, you'll see how jagged the lines are compared to the full page. I do most of my drawings fully using the cintiq from pencils to inking and coloring. A tablet and Photoshop, Painter or Sketchbook pro makes great inks.

Another way to do it is with Adobe Illustrator and a graphics tablet. Even the $100 bamboo is fine for this purpose. There is a tool in illustrator called "blob". Lower the fidelity a little and it smoothens your inking lines as you draw.

If you want to do it the old fashioned way. Do your roughs in a blue pencil and grab yourself a nice 2B or 4B pencil and draw in some nice dark thick lines. After you scan it, filter out the blue.
