I made candy tonight, first time ever, and i managed to cook and blister my hands a wee bit. generaly they feel kinda warm, with my thumbs and index fingers bieng the sorest. i managed to break the skin on my right index finger, just the upper layer. i trimmed away the detached skin washed it with soap water, and rubbed antibiotic cream on it, but damnation does it sting. On top of all that, the candy came out way to hard, must have over cooked it. i was going for taffy, i got something along the lines of a werthers. anyways, anyone have advice on making taffy and on not hurting myself? Also any advice on dealing with my sore digits would be apreciated :D

sewriously duide, see a doctor about them if they are that bad... you should NOT have removed the skin at the very least.

its not that bad, just a quarter inch or so of the top top layer.
See that very top most section, well i think i lost some of that. the exposed area is very sensitive to sensation, which feels realy strange. I feel everything it touchs, esp fabric, or the hairs on my arm, i feel individual hairs as they drag across. i imagine having all this sensation at once all over your body would be a mind blowing, but painful, experience. Also if you get a blister, and it pops or is otherwise torn, you should remove the excess skin so nothing (bacteria) can get trapped under it and grow. oh, and my hands finaly cooled down, no more warm sensation, however the joints are sore as hell from pulling that candy :P

get a candy thermometer if you want to make taffy
just a degree or two to hot and you have to start over again

Im with Lib on this one. Never ask for medical help on a message board as you'll either get an answer that's sexual in nature, something involving jedi, or a youtube link
